Actress and singer Jane Birkin was born on December 14, 1946, in London, England.
In 1963, at the age of 17, she made her stage debut in a play. With the encouragement of composer John Barry, she sang for the first time in a musical. She subsequently appeared in films such as "Blow-Up," which won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
In 1967, she moved to France. She was cast in the lead role in the film "Slogan," where she met musician Serge Gainsbourg. The two released the duet single "Je t'aime moi non plus" in 1969. Its calculated eroticism attracted public attention. Serge continued to compose songs that showcased Jane's fragile voice. Their daughter, Charlotte Gainsbourg, born in 1971, is currently a successful actress. Serge's first directorial work, "Je t'aime moi non plus," released in 1976, is known as a masterpiece. She also released four albums as a singer, reaching the pinnacle of her career with "Omoide no Rock 'n' Roller" in 1978. In 1999, her song "Muzokaku Shinshi" was used as the theme song for a Japanese drama, and the "Best of" album containing the song became a huge hit, selling over 300,000 copies. She also continues to have a major influence on fashion. The Birkin, the iconic Hermès bag, was created when the brand's president saw Jane stuffing things into a basket and decided to create a bag that could hold anything.
