MUJI will be renewing its denim lineup in mid-January 2014. The patterns have been revised to achieve not only "comfort" but also "ease of movement and a flattering silhouette," and three new denim styles will be offered using a variety of materials.
The flagship product is the "American Cotton Blend Denim Pants." The new pants offer a wider variety of skinny silhouettes, a global trend, with a focus on comfort. They use yarn with greater elasticity than previous models, and the silhouette below the knee has been revised to create a flattering silhouette. The material comes from one of the world's largest denim manufacturers, a long-established manufacturer of denim pants. The denim is processed to achieve the appropriate fading for each silhouette.
The women's lineup includes 11 styles: super stretch skinny (ankle-length/cropped), skinny, straight skinny, high-rise skinny, bootcut, tapered boyfriend (ankle-length/cropped), straight boyfriend (ankle-length), skirt, and short. The men's lineup includes three styles: skinny, slim, and regular, all priced at 3,980 yen. Also available is "Japan Denim," raw denim made with 100% organic cotton from a renowned Japanese fabric manufacturer. Woven on a shuttle loom that cannot be used for mass production, the more beautiful the vertical fading develops with wear. Women's sizes include straight boyfriend (ankle length) and tapered boyfriend (ankle length), and men's sizes include regular and slim. All four styles are priced at ¥9,980. "Turkish Cotton Blend Denim," made with Turkish materials and designed to match the elegant style characteristic of European denim, is available in women's tapered boyfriend (ankle length) and skinny, and men's regular and slim. Prices are ¥7,980. Japan Denim and Turkish Cotton Blend Denim are limited edition and will only be sold at Yurakucho, Shibuya Seibu, Ikebukuro Seibu, and Grand Front Osaka. With this renewal, MUJI focused on Japan's denim technology. The denim fabric, high-quality sewing techniques, and artisan-like processing techniques that are the signature purchases of world-famous brands have been incorporated into the standard denim that is sold year-round. Women's items will be released on January 15th, and men's items on the 17th.
