On December 22nd, Shiseido held its "FACETASM" collection show at the Shiseido Ginza Building. The brand, winner of this year's Mainichi Fashion Grand Prix Newcomer Award and Shiseido Encouragement Award, performed twice, attracting an audience of approximately 200. This was part of the "Merry Merry Makeup!" Christmas event, which runs until the 25th. A runway was set up across the building's first to third floors, and 16 men's and women's models showcased the 2014 Spring/Summer collection. Styling was handled by designer Hiromichi Ochiai, with hair and makeup by Hirofumi Keira and Miyako Okamoto, artists affiliated with the Shiseido Beauty Creation Research Center. The trio sought to achieve a balance that complemented fashion and beauty. The look featured a primarily monochrome palette, with avant-garde makeup featuring sharp blush and vivid lipstick in red and blue. The white lines under the eyes were also a key point. The hairstyle featured Tokyo-inspired blunt bangs paired with a voluminous updo. "I felt the elegance of FACETASM's clothing, so I wanted to add a twist with the hairstyle. I deliberately created a rough texture," said Keira.
After the show, a talk session was held with Soen magazine's sub-chief Sudo Yukie as facilitator. Both artists, who are active in the fashion industry, including working on hair and makeup for the New York Collection, commented, "When I started working in fashion, I realized that rules aren't absolute and that things are always changing with the seasons, so it's important to be flexible. Working on makeup for the New York Collection allowed me to break free from the constraints of creativity," said Okamoto. "I'm always thinking about new hairstyles, exploring possibilities and thinking, 'Maybe this is something I could try,'" Keira said. In response to a question from the audience about the future of creations originating from Tokyo, Ochiai replied, "If we present something new in Tokyo, the world will take notice, and we can go global from here." Keiyoshi added, "With the increasing number of events featuring Japan and the speed at which information about Japan is disseminated overseas, it's important to do what we envision and show it early." Okamoto added, "I believe that the Japanese attention to detail and hospitality are what make Japan and Tokyo unique, and I want to continue to cherish them." Finally, Okamoto and Keiyoshi both said, "FACETASM does interesting things with their shows, hair, and makeup. I've always wanted to do a show for this brand." Ochiai, responding to their expectations, expressed his enthusiasm for future endeavors, saying, "I want to continue taking on new challenges. It's not that I have a goal, but rather that I take on so many challenges precisely because there are so many things I can't do."
The event was streamed live on Ustream and will also be available on a special website until January 31, 2014.
