On December 21st, Shiseido opened a photo exhibition titled "Seven Hair and Makeup Artists and Tokyo Fashion Exhibition" at the Hanatsubaki Hall on the 3rd floor of the Ginza Building. It will run until the 25th. It is part of Shiseido's Christmas event "Merry Merry Makeup!" which began on December 1st. Seven hair and makeup artists from the Shiseido Beauty Creation Research Center—Etsu Nishijima, Miyako Okamoto, Hirofumi Keira, Tadashi Harada, Yumiko Kamata, Noriko Okubo, and Setsuko Suzuki—collaborated with seven brands that have won the Mainichi Fashion Grand Prix's Newcomer Award and Shiseido Encouragement Award: Ne-net, SOMARTA, ANREALAGE, DRESSCAMP, TOGA, AGURI SAGIMORI, and TARO HORIUCHI—to produce 21 original photographs. The brands were selected by the artists themselves. Panels of each artist's work will be displayed at the venue. In addition to the original photographs, behind-the-scenes footage and the clothing used will also be on display. Keira and Harada, the only two male artists among the seven, presented vivid red visuals reminiscent of Christmas. Keira created this piece for Ne-net. Using a voluminous dress from the brand's Spring/Summer 2009 collection, his hair is just as voluminous. While the brand has a cute image, the photos exude a subtle eeriness. "I've always been interested in this brand. I think I depicted the Ne-net I imagine, or rather, the surrealism lurking behind the brand. Ne-net has a mysterious quality, with ghosts sometimes appearing. This was actually my first time working with Ne-net, and I don't know the designer, Issei Takashima, personally. Perhaps that gave me more freedom. Takashima messaged me, saying he was happy that the stylist had created something so cute for me," Keira said. Takashima was also at the venue, but unfortunately, it was a close call. Harada, who opened the venue with a photo exhibition inspired by the manga "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure," is also featured. This time, Harada chose Agri Sagimori, and the consistent use of red, white, and green colors and holly leaves creates a Christmas-like piece. "Since it's Christmas, Santa Claus, Little Red Riding Hood, reindeer, and wreaths came to mind," Harada began. Of course, JoJo wasn't forgotten. "Sugar Mountain from Steel Ball Run Part 7 was also one of the motifs (laughs)." The resulting visuals are clearly inspired by the imagery and have a strong impact. Harada says he has previously used Agri Sagimori in photo shoots. "I really resonated with the brand concept of antinomy, where two opposites assert and coexist. So this time, I went all out with it (laughs). I wanted to see what would happen if the clothes and hair and makeup asserted themselves. I didn't pander, I fought. I usually draw sketches, but this time I just gathered Christmas-like decorations and designed them on location. It felt lively and exciting," Harada said. He also said he's working on his next JoJo project. On the 22nd, at 2pm and 5pm, a runway show will be held in the same building for FACETASM, winner of this year's Newcomer Award and Shiseido Encouragement Award. Hair and makeup will be handled by Keira and Okamoto.
