Floral patterns take center stage in DRIES VAN NOTEN's Spring/Summer 2014 men's collection, suggesting a style inspired by Jean Cocteau and Jimi Hendrix. Camel, sand beige, black, and navy are used as base colors, with floral patterns in jacquard and prints. Black fabrics feature reworked prints from the 18th to 20th centuries selected from the archives of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, where the brand's exhibition will be held from March 1, 2014. Sporty pieces like tank tops, biker pants, silk shorts, and nylon and waterproof cotton coats are complemented by dressy tailored coats, evening jackets, and shirts. These pieces, with their different textures and impressions, are layered together. Many pieces feature relaxed silhouettes and lightweight, unlined designs.
Accessories included narrow ties and round tortoiseshell sunglasses, paired with dark plimsoll sneakers or sports sandals.
Gold buttons, gold braid embroidery and photo prints of coats of arms added a navy feel to the blazers and pants. Scanned prints of orchids and the number "9", the address of the Paris shop, also added accents.
The show featured a solo performance by Cindy Blackman Santana, one of the most iconic drummers in the jazz-rock world.
