Dries Van Noten's Spring/Summer 2014 collection featured daywear such as jackets, pants, and shirts, but also offered styles with glamorous embellishments reminiscent of evening wear. Natural, matte-colored fabrics like cotton, linen, and silk contrast sharply with gold foil and faux leather. One of the collection's signature designs, pleated ruffles, was inspired by the costumes of Dutch designer and choreographer Fong Leng, who was active in the 1970s. In addition to the gold hue, ethnic elements were also incorporated, such as small beads, shell embroidery, lace, ethnic-style bags, and cork platform shoes. Other patterns featured this season include large poppies, barbed wire graphics, python and tiger prints, and quilted fabrics with stitched crocodile patterns. As with the men's collection, several floral patterns were created by reworking pieces from the archives of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
Colin Greenwood of Radiohead appeared on the runway, and the sound of a bass guitar signaled the start of the show. The music was an original song written for the show.
From March 1st, 2014, a solo exhibition of Dries Van Noten will be held at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Pieces from past collections and archive pieces from the museum will be used to express the brand's worldview and creative vision.
