Bvlgari and Japan have always shared a special bond. Bvlgari's encounter with Japan, a country that celebrates "bello e ben fatto" (the beautiful, the well-crafted) and conveys excellence, has led to many great achievements in recent years. Among these achievements has been the creation of several limited edition Octo Finissimo models in collaboration with Japanese artists, including musicians and painters. Bvlgari is pleased to present the "Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Miyajima Tatsuo Japan Limited Edition" collection, featuring the world-renowned contemporary artist Tatsuo Miyajima.

Since the 1980s, Tatsuo Miyajima has been creating installations and artworks using LED (light-emitting diode) digital counters that change from 1 to 9, based on three concepts: "It keeps changing," "It connects with everything," and "It continues forever."
The digital numbers, the motif of his works, never display a zero and instead forever change from 1 to 9, suggesting the universal cycle of life and death for humans, as well as the eternity and continuity of time and the life cycle. The "Octo Finissimo Miyajima Tatsuo Japan Limited Edition" collection is a one-of-a-kind product born from a creative collaboration between Miyajima and Bvlgari. This timepiece is crafted from titanium and ceramic. Its minimalist and sophisticated design is based on the same philosophical approach as Miyajima's own work.

"It is said that mankind invented numbers, which did not exist in nature. Once we were able to count, and distinguish between yesterday, tomorrow, 10 days from now, and so on, humans finally began to recognize time. For this OCTO design, I used this fundamental number as a motif, and placed the seven-segment digital numerals that I always use in my work on the dial. These seven-segment digital numerals are made up of a single set of seven parts, yet can express all the numbers from 1 to 9. For the automatic model, the digital numerals are embossed on a black and gray background. I have shown only the shape of the numerals, without referring to specific numbers or colors, so that viewers can freely associate the various changing numbers. Furthermore, for the minute repeater model, the digital numerals are cut out into the dial, allowing a peek at the movement at work. I hope that the direct relationship between the watch's mechanics and the digital numerals will evoke the changing numbers. In either case, I want people to contemplate the relationship between these seven-segment digital numerals and time, and feel the infinite time on their wrist."

"Octo," with its graceful octagonal geometric form, means "8" in Latin. In Europe, it is a symbol of infinity, eternity, and rebirth, and is also considered an auspicious number in Asia. This collaboration also incorporates the number "8" as a design symbol, linking it to the concept of "eternity" that is also the concept of Miyajima's work. The simple design conveys the powerful message of the number "8."

The "Octo Finissimo Miyajima Tatsuo Japan Limited Edition" collection will be released sequentially from November 2021, with automatic models in titanium and ceramic cases limited to 120 pieces each, and minute repeaters limited to three pieces. Tatsuo Miyajima
