Pastry chef Asako Iwayanagi, known for her distinctive and captivating cakes, has opened her new shop, PATISSERIE ASAKO IWAYANAGI, in Setagaya, Tokyo (4-4-5 Todoroki, Setagaya-ku, Tokyo). After studying dye design at a fashion school, Iwayanagi traveled to France to self-study cakes. In 2005, she opened her own shop, PATISSERIE de bon coeur, in Musashi-Koyama, where she serves as chef pastry chef. Her unique sense of color has garnered attention, and she continues to create new products, such as releasing new collections twice a year. "The most important thing in cake making is rhythm," says Iwayanagi. At PATISSERIE ASAKO IWAYANAGI, she creates cakes that tell a story through the rhythm of ingredients, flavors, textures, color schemes, and composition. The shop will offer seasonal cakes that use in-season fruits and allow you to feel the changing of the seasons, as well as freshly baked pastries with a buttery aroma.
On opening her eponymous shop, Iwayanagi commented, "I am excited about new encounters and my imagination wanders to cakes I have yet to see. I want to create cakes that bring out the charm of what people desire. When they appear in front of you, you can't help but eat them. Imagine that sight of someone happily stuffing their face into their mouth, and I will continue to pursue cakes that only I can make, so that I can deliver memorable cakes."
