Fondation Louis Vuitton to host Chinese contemporary art exhibition, including works by Ai Weiwei and others

Jan 30, 2016

The Fondation Louis Vuitton, a contemporary art museum in Paris, France, will host a special exhibition featuring artists active in China starting on January 27th.

The exhibition, "Bentu: Chinese Artists at a Time of Turbulence and Transformation," showcases the multifaceted nature of Chinese art through the works of 12 mainland Chinese artists of various generations. Using methods and media drawn from local traditions and culture, along with cutting-edge technology that connects and confronts them, the works express the complexity of a society in perpetual change. This is the first exhibition focusing on Chinese contemporary art to be held in France in nearly 10 years.

In addition to the special exhibition, the Fondation Louis Vuitton will be focusing on the Chinese art scene in three parts: an exhibition of works by Chinese artists or with a Chinese theme from the Fondation's collection until September 5th; and an academic event. The museum's collection exhibition will feature works by 11 artists, including Ai Weiwei's "Tree," a series of works by Huang Yong Ping, and Zhang Huan's Buddha head. In addition, academic events will be held based on four themes: music, film, performance, and poetry.
