"Trace of Hands Kasama & Mashiko," a joint exhibition featuring 23 ceramic artists active in Kasama and Mashiko, two cities known for their pottery, will be held at five venues in Tokyo from January 29th to February 7th. Mashiko, a producer of Mashiko ware since the Edo period, gained popularity when it was used as the base of operations by ceramic artist Shoji Hamada, who promoted the folk craft movement. Kasama, along with Mashiko, is known as a pottery production center, with nearly 300 ceramic artists working daily. "Trace of Hands" is a joint exhibition featuring ceramic artists active in both Kasama and Mashiko. The first exhibition was held in Kagoshima in 2012 by Akio Nukaga, who makes pottery in Kasama, and Hideki Takayama, who creates woodwork in Mashiko. The second exhibition, held in 2013, featured 19 artists at three venues in Tokyo. The third exhibition will be held at five venues in Tokyo: Playmountain, Kagure, Shizen, Utsuwa Kaede, and OVE. Playmountain will feature works by ceramic artists Yasushi Yokota, Tsunehisa Gunji, and Moe Kawasaki, woodworker Hideki Takayama, and glass artist Yoji Sugiyama. Kagure will feature works by ceramic artists Taro Endo, Ryuta Goto, and Minoru Suzuki, and textile artist Mayuko Yasuda. Shizen will feature works by ceramic artists Takehiro Ito, Kosuke Teramura, and Shinsaku Nakazono, ceramic artist Tetsuo Kuwahara, and magnetic artist Noriko Kuwahara. Utsuwa Kaede will feature works by ceramic artists Yumiko Shimoya, Mishio Suzuki, and Akio Nukaga, woodworker Toshio Yasuhiko, and iron artist Maki Nitta. OVE will feature works by ceramic artists Takato Okada, Shizuka Oikawa, Yasuhiro Sasaki, and Yuka Ikugata.
In addition, a talk show will be held at the OVE Minami Aoyama store from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on January 30th, featuring Landscape Products' Nakahara Shinichiro and Okamoto Jin, ceramic artist Nukaga Akio, and architect Kato Seihiro.
