FASHION HEADLINE analyzes the trends for Spring/Summer 2014 through 10 keywords. The second installment is "tribal."
Tribal means "of a tribe." In fashion, it refers to a style inspired by the body art, traditional patterns, and clothing of tribes, primarily in Africa and Asia.
JUNYA WATANABE COMME des GARÇONS featured jersey and faux suede dresses with an African feel. The fringe was elaborately crafted by sewing each strand inside out and then threading and weaving beads into it. A large headpiece made of pheasant feathers also made a big impact. Spikes on the shoes added a touch of Junya Watanabe's signature punk spirit.
The GIVENCHY show began with the sound of drums. Using couture techniques, African traditional clothing was transformed into elegant dresses. The African mask motif, which also appeared in the men's collection, was expressed through sequin embroidery on a square piece of fabric. The beautiful mask-like makeup was created by applying crystals and glitter directly to the skin.
DRIES VAN NOTEN used ethnic-style embroidery with fringe and seashells. He also suggested styling urban styles such as jackets and dresses with ethnic items through accessories such as clutches, necklaces, and shoes.
AQUILANO.RIMONDI's stripes are a pattern taken from the traditional clothing of the Maasai people. The dress's minimalist silhouette makes it easy to incorporate into everyday styles.
