Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings' winter clearance sale kicked off on January 15th at major stores in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Business results for the first day of the sale were announced for three flagship stores: Isetan Shinjuku, Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi, and Ginza Mitsukoshi. The Shinjuku store, which opened 15 minutes early, is expected to see double-digit increases over last year. Approximately 6,100 people lined up. Outerwear like wool and down coats and sweaters proved popular, along with special living items. Approximately 1,000 people lined up in Nihonbashi. Accessories like scarves and gloves, as well as women's coats, sold well, but sales are expected to be slightly lower than last year. In Ginza, 800 people lined up. Women's shoes and down coats were popular. Sales are expected to be on par with last year. Men's sales were also popular at all three stores. The first line at the Shinjuku store was at the Men's Building, where people reportedly lined up as early as midnight last night. Products not included in the sale are also selling well.
