Multi-creator Malcolm McLaren was born on January 22, 1946, in London, England. He passed away on April 8, 2010.
His parents divorced when he was young, and he was raised by his grandmother, a diamond dealer. After a while, his mother remarried, and he learned the basics of design and sewing at the clothing factory owned by his stepfather and mother. After graduating from Goldsmiths, University of London, he began working as a fashion designer.
In 1971, he opened the fashion boutique "Let It Rock" on London's King's Road with Vivienne Westwood. The shop changed its name to "SEX," "Seditionaries," and "World's End," and mainly stocked bondage fashion. It was Malcolm who came up with the idea for the bondage pants, now an iconic item for Vivienne Westwood.
Later, together with Vivienne, he produced the rock band "Sex Pistols," formed by regular customers of his shop. The band was a great success with its radical, anti-social image strategy, and punk fashion and punk rock became a huge boom among young people in the UK. In 1980, he recruited members of Adam & the Ants to form "Bow Wow Wow," who also gained popularity with their flashy fashion and innovative musical style.
After ending his relationship with Vivienne, he traveled alone to the United States and released albums such as "Madama Butterfly" as a musician. He also founded a punk fashion brand named after himself, and had a major influence on culture as the "father of punk." He died of mesothelioma in 2010.
