Jamie Reid, the Sex Pistols' artwork artist, to hold solo exhibition at Shibuya Parco

Sep 10, 2013

Parco Gallery X, a space showcasing monthly exhibitions by leading Japanese and international artists, will open at Shibuya Parco on the 14th. The opening event will feature a solo exhibition by British artist Jamie Reid. Jamie Reid was born in England in 1947. While at art school, he met Malcolm McLaren, the man behind the Sex Pistols, and was commissioned to create artwork for the band. He is known for his work on albums released in the mid- to late 1970s, including the covers for "Never Mind the Bollocks," "Pretty Vacant," and "Holidays in the Sun." His "God Save the Queen," featuring a Cecil Beaton photograph of Queen Elizabeth II with a safety pin tucked into her lip, is considered a symbol of the punk rock era. He has influenced many designers in the fields of graphic design and fashion, and Kashiwa Sato has spoken of his influence on his own work.

In addition to original drawings and artwork related to the Sex Pistols, this exhibition will also feature installations and rare footage. Parco-exclusive works and new silkscreen prints will also be on sale, as well as collaboration items with street fashion brand XLARGE.

The Jamie Reid exhibition will be held from the 14th to October 14th. Opening hours are 10am-9pm.
