The Body Shop will be holding its fourth annual "Sakura Charity Project" to support earthquake recovery efforts from February 28th to March 31st.
Donations of 300 yen to the "I AM (Heart Mark) Love Knitting Project," which aims to prevent isolation and support the independence of elderly people and women living in temporary housing, will receive a free "Original Sakura Sponge" made from 100% organic cotton, knitted by women living in temporary housing in Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture. All donations will be donated to the project. The campaign will be held at 170 The Body Shop stores nationwide.
In addition, The Body Shop will be promoting its cherry blossom-scented "Sakura" series as a charity product. With the purchase of six individual products, including the newly released body butter (200ml/2,625 yen) from the series (two limited-edition kits will be added on March 15th), 30 yen will be donated to reconstruction support efforts for each product. Donations will be made to the aforementioned "I AM Knitting with Love Project" and "The Body Shop Nippon Foundation," which works to support animals, the environment, human rights, and earthquake recovery efforts.
Out-of-store events are also planned, including a "Knitting with Love Charity Knitting Class" on February 15th at The Body Shop Shibuya store, where a lecturer from the project will teach participants how to knit cherry blossom-shaped sponges, and a one-day "Disaster Area Volunteer Tour" in April that will include a visit to Kesennuma.
