The "Shinjuku Shopping Campaign 2014 Spring," promoting Shinjuku to foreign tourists, will be held in the Shinjuku area from January 31st to March 31st. A press conference was held on the 30th.
To attract foreign tourists, the campaign is collaborating with seven companies from different industries, including department stores with branches in Shinjuku, such as Mitsukoshi Isetan, Lumine, Bic Camera, and Don Quijote, as well as large commercial facilities and mass retailers.
The "Shinjuku Shopping Campaign 2014 Spring" will implement various joint sales promotions across business categories to establish Shinjuku as an international tourist destination where visitors to Japan can easily shop and experience Japan. As an effort to promote mutual customer referrals and shopping between stores, participating stores will distribute a "Shinjuku Shopping Guidebook." The guidebook will be available in four versions: Chinese (Traditional and Simplified) & English, Korean & English, and Thai & English. 20,000 copies of each language will be distributed, for a total of 80,000 copies. The guidebook's Shinjuku area map and information about each store will help encourage mutual customer traffic between stores. Additionally, stores will offer free gifts and discounts at their duty-free counters, as well as "hands-free shopping," where luggage can be delivered to participating hotels the same day at a special rate. Participating stores include Isetan Shinjuku, Keio Department Store Shinjuku, Shinjuku Marui Main Building, Shinjuku Marui Men, Shinjuku Marui Annex, Tokyu Hands Shinjuku, Don Quijote Shinjuku East Exit, Don Quijote Shinjuku, Bic Camera Shinjuku East Exit, Bic Camera Shinjuku West Exit, Lumine Shinjuku, and Lumine Est Shinjuku, representing a total of 12 stores from seven companies. Approximately 18 hotels and the main shopping district will also work together to promote online shopping. This is a public-private partnership with Shinjuku Ward, Shinjuku Convention & Visitors Association, and the Japan Shopping Tourism Association. "Shinjuku is a city that thrives on diversity. It may be a characteristic of the city of Shinjuku that companies with such different personalities have come together on this occasion. By bringing together the companies around the station and working together as one, we hope to provide hospitality that will satisfy foreign tourists," said Shinjuku Ward Mayor Hiroko Nakayama.
