John Bull, a comprehensive brand focused on jeans casual wear, has opened a new type of directly managed store, "Dressage John Bull Private Lab," at Grand Front Osaka. The store measures 55.2 square meters and offers a wide selection of men's and women's clothing, shoes, accessories, and sunglasses. While John Bull is renowned as a casual apparel manufacturer, this store's original products are limited to jeans, shoes, and matching suits; most of the merchandise is sourced from other brands. Original merchandise accounts for only 20% of the total. Men's brands include Lot Holon and Berg Febre, while women's brands include Golden Goose, Ilaria, Ash, and Muller. Watches, sunglasses, accessories, and scarves are also available, featuring antique brands such as Rolex, Saint Laurent, Chanel, and Hermès. The average customer spend this spring and summer is expected to be ¥35,000, ¥10,000 higher than at other John Bull directly managed stores. While other directly managed stores have a more casual feel, this store will promote a dressier style. The company explains, "We wanted to create a cooler, more intense look in a small space."
The jeans are different from the company's previous products, developed specifically for this store. Instead of using slub yarn, the yarn itself is unevenly dyed to create a more natural vertical fading effect. The price is 21,000 yen.
Denim is typically woven with indigo-dyed cotton yarn for the warp and white cotton yarn for the weft. The indigo-dyed warp yarn does not reach the center of the thread. Therefore, when worn or washed, the blue surface peels off, revealing the white center. This is what causes the denim to fade. To create a vintage look, slub yarn with knots in places is often used instead of straight cotton yarn. Dressage jeans do not use this slub yarn, but instead use straight warp yarns that are dyed unevenly to give the fabric a unique look when faded.
