Have you seen "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer"? No, it has nothing to do with the trio of idols that our editor, Ebizo, likes. It's a movie released in 2007. It tells the thrilling story of a genius perfumer who grew up as an orphan and commits a series of murders in order to create the ultimate perfume. When it was released in Japan, it became famous for "that famous scene" (Google it for details!), but the story itself is very interesting and the actors are great, so I definitely recommend you check it out.
I found it so interesting that I also read the original book, "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer" (translated by Ikeuchi Ki/published by Bungeishunju), and I was struck by the phrase, "He who controls smell controls the mind." Scent is more important than we realize, and it works on our subconscious and is linked to the impression we have of others. In other words, if you master the use of scent, you can become a refined gentleman, a wild adventurer, or even a slightly dangerous man. While it's nice to have your own personal favorite, it's also very smart to use different scents depending on the occasion. So, this time, we'll be introducing men's fragrances.
First up is ISSEY MIYAKE's L'EAU D'ISSEY POUR HOMME SUMMER Eau de Toilette. Housed in a kiwi-patterned bottle, it's filled with summery fruit scents like grapefruit and pineapple. It's juicy and fresh, evoking a sense of freedom, like being blown by a tropical breeze. The wood tones down the otherwise girly, carefree vibe, making it perfect for mature men. There's also a women's version with the sweet and sour scent of lychee and passion fruit. This bottle features a dragon fruit design, making it a perfect summer scent for both men and women.
We also recommend the "Cruise" line, the latest addition to the RISING WAVE series, winner of the Japan Fragrance Award. As the name suggests, it's themed around "travel," and comes in three varieties inspired by land, sea, and sky. The flask-shaped bottle, which fits comfortably in a denim pocket, has a lovely story-telling quality. Radiant Sky, housed in a silver bottle reminiscent of a duralumin suitcase, opens with a refreshing scent of mint and yuzu. Safari Brave, wrapped in leather, is the wildest of the three. Its refreshing grapefruit top is gradually sweetened with jasmine and tonka bean. Ocean Breeze, a refreshing light blue, boasts marine notes of lime and lemon. Developed for Japanese men, each fragrance is refreshingly office-appropriate. Creed's Eau de Parfum Virgin Island Water, inspired by memories of sailing in the Caribbean, is another travel-themed fragrance. Its citrus notes, combined with the sweetness of coconut, create a vacation-like atmosphere. Even for those corporate warriors who can't quite travel, why not embark on an olfactory journey?
MONTBLANC's Legend Special Edition Eau de Toilette adds pepper and ginger to the Legend scent. It's a slightly spicy scent for mature men. Personally, I'd like to date a man who suits this kind of scent (lol). The bottle, which is modeled after an ink bottle, is colored in a blue-black gradient and is irresistibly cool.
Next time, we'll be looking at women's fragrances. I'd like to explore my favorite perfumes in order to become a lady worthy of the men who would suit the fragrances introduced this time.
