New director Sergio Rossi unveils collaborative collection with artist Gabriela Crespi

May 9, 2013

Italian shoe brand Sergio Rossi and designer Gabriella Crespi presented a capsule collection at Milan Salone. Crespi, also known as an artist, was active in the 1960s and 1970s, and her artwork and furniture have adorned the homes of Greek shipping magnate George Livanos, Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco, and the King of Iran. The collection marks the first project by Angelo Ruggeri, the brand's new design director, who succeeded Francesco Russo. Inspired by the "Gocce Oro" candlestick, designed by Crespi in 1974, the collection features ten styles in two series, including pumps inspired by Crespi's "Ying Yang Table," and gold high-heeled sandals with filigree jewelry motifs. The collection will be available at Sergio Rossi boutiques in December. The brand has a deep connection with art; even under Francesco Russo, the brand released shoes inspired by the work of Italian architect Ettore Sottsass of the postmodern design group "Memphis," and produced films in collaboration with architect and furniture designer Michel Haillard and film director Luca Guadagnino, creating the brand's worldview in collaboration with cutting-edge Italian creators.
