A limited-time store featuring rainwear from Mackintosh Philosophy will open on the 22nd in the Urban Closet on the second floor of Isetan Shinjuku. It will run until June 4th. The approximately 40-sq. m (12-tsubo) sales floor offers rainwear styling ideas ahead of the rainy season. The classic "Pocketable Coat" (single size: ¥17,850, double size: ¥19,950), which folds into a storage pouch, will be available in five colors exclusive to Isetan Mitsukoshi: light yellow, rose pink, sky blue, light gray, and black. In addition to the standard sizes 36, 38, and 40, sizes 34 (size 5) and 42 (size 13) will also be available. The trench-style raincoat (¥37,800), made from 100% water-repellent linen, will be available exclusively at Isetan Mitsukoshi in light gray, off-beige, and red. Other items available include a cotton-linen blend coat with three-quarter puff sleeves and a coat with a ribbon belt that cinches the waist, making it suitable for rain or shine.
In recent years, rain gear has begun to be seen as a fashion item, with an increasing variety of colors and designs. The brand, which specializes in coats, saw its rain gear sales in June last year increase 1.8 times compared to 2011, driving overall sales for the brand. Packable coats are a mainstay not only for Mackintosh, but also for the Burberry brand. They are said to be popular as entry items.
