Uniqlo's large store opens in Kichijoji. Nomura Real Estate Development develops large commercial facility.

May 20, 2013

Nomura Real Estate Development began development of the "(tentative) Kichijo Honcho 2-chome New Construction Project" in April of this year, a commercial facility located near Kichijoji Station on the JR and Keio Inokashira Lines.

Located a three-minute walk from the station and across from Kichijoji Parco, the building will have seven floors above ground, two below, and one penthouse floor. Its site area is 937.93 square meters, with a total floor space of 6,553.82 square meters. The basic design was handled by INA New Architecture Research Institute, and construction will be carried out by Obayashi Corporation. Completion is scheduled for the end of July next year.

The only tenant will be UNIQLO, a subsidiary of Fast Retailing. The first to seventh floors will occupy a total sales floor area of approximately 2,800 square meters (approximately 850 tsubo), making it the largest UNIQLO store ever. The new building is located at the intersection of Kichijoji-dori and Nakamichi-dori, in the busiest area near the north exit of the station, where numerous select shops, cafes, and other street-level stores line the streets. While Uniqlo already has stores in Kichijoji, such as Yodobashi Kichijoji and Atre Kichijoji, this new store will undoubtedly be a major draw.

The building's exterior features a highly visible design, with extensive use of glass. The facade allows customers to see the flow of people inside the store, creating a sense of unity with the neighborhood and a lively atmosphere. The building is based on the "Kichijoji Grand Design" formulated by Musashino City, and will serve as a new landmark for Kichijoji.

To strengthen its commercial facility business, Nomura Real Estate established a commercial facility division in April of this year. In addition to the "(tentative) Kichijo Honcho 2-Chome New Construction Project," the company will continue to develop its "GEMS" series, which focuses on restaurants. At the same time, the company is also involved in redevelopment projects, including community-based facilities like the "bono Sagami-Ono Shopping Center" and station-front redevelopment projects such as "Miraza Shinjuku."
