ANA Group, which celebrated its 60th anniversary last year, has appointed Prabal Gurung, a young New York designer, as its new uniform designer. This marks the first time that ANA has hired a foreign designer.
The basic concepts of the new uniforms are "evolution," "trustworthiness," and "Japanese hospitality." Approximately 10,000 ANA Group cabin attendants and ground staff will wear them. They are scheduled to be introduced in the second half of 2014. The design will be announced later this year.
Gurung was born in Singapore. After graduating from Parsons School of Design, he founded his own brand in 2009. He was a runner-up in the CFDA Awards in 2010 and won the CFDA New Designer Award in 2011. He signed a contract with Onward Kashiyama and became the chief designer of ICB NY. Many celebrities, including First Lady Michelle Obama, Princess Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and Lady Gaga, wear his collections.
