Japan's largest maker event, hosted by Creema, will be held at Big Sight in July

May 27, 2013

The Handmade in Japan Festival 2013, hosted by Creema, an online marketplace selling handmade and handcrafted items, will be held over two days, July 20th and 21st. The event will bring together over 2,200 individual creators from across Japan, with 1,600 booths. The Creator Area will feature a market displaying and selling original works, including fashion, interior design, art, and handicrafts, as well as workshops by traditional artisans and popular artists and live painting. The Music & Play Area will feature live performances by the South American-inspired musical group Bonobos, Daisuke Endo's solo project DE DE MOUSE, the highly entertaining professional wrestling organization DDT Pro Wrestling, and artists selected through a public call from across Japan. Enjoy the outdoor space along with food from across Japan. Creema is an online marketplace where individual creators can buy and sell their works directly online. Since its opening in June 2010, 8,200 creators have participated, exhibiting over 115,000 works. The total value of the works sold has increased more than tenfold in the past year. The venue has also hosted a number of events, including the "HANDMADE IN JAPAN AWARD," held in Berlin to commemorate the 150th anniversary of relations between Japan and Germany, the "TOKYO HANDMADE MARKET," a brick-and-mortar shop in collaboration with Isetan Shinjuku, and the "Creema@ Shibuya Hikarie ShinQs," a limited-time brick-and-mortar shop held to commemorate the first anniversary of Shibuya Hikarie.
