On May 24th, the first collection for "MONCLER W," a collaboration between designer Yosuke Aizawa's White Mountaineering and luxury down brand Moncler, was unveiled at the National Stadium in Sendagaya, Tokyo. The theme was "industrial design." The collection featured a wide range of items, including down jackets, down pants, knit pants, scarves, gloves, and shoes. Eleven of the 16 looks were displayed at the venue. The colors were based on gray, red, khaki, and beige. "Just as a car is made up of various parts and materials, I mixed colors and fabrics to pursue my own unique style," said Aizawa. True to his words, the collection featured many jacquard knits and cable knits in White Mountaineering's signature Nordic patterns. Moncler's signature down jackets were given a wave quilting treatment. The collection also combined nylon, corduroy, and laminated cotton with the same print as the knitwear. The accessories also feature a mix of different materials, including a knit scarf with suede fringe and gloves made of knit and leather.
The design details are also characteristic of Aizawa. Pocket flaps are cut diagonally, hip pockets of various sizes are mixed, and a pocket for gadgets is installed on the front. Even the smallest details, such as the random button placement and darts on the sleeves, reveal his unique creativity.
"Moncler is amazing because of their ability to propose ideas for each material. They have specialists in each process of clothing production. For example, they used their extensive experience and knowledge to suggest the best method to match my design and functionality, from the yarn count to the thickness of the coating when laminating fabric," says Aizawa. "I think we'll be able to tell a lot about the collection's performance once we start selling it," he says, looking forward to the collection's August release.
The collection will be available at Moncler stores and select select shops worldwide.
