On May 21st, the world premiere of the collaborative collection between LOEWE and JUNYA WATANABE COMME des GARÇONS was held at the Spanish Embassy in Roppongi, Tokyo. Apparel was presented in a show-style format, while accessories were displayed at the venue. The show kicked off with the tune of Yura Yura Teikoku's "Glitter Pantaloons." Pieces combining LOEWE's nappa leather with Junya Watanabe's signature denim and patchwork were introduced one after another. For women, the collection included a denim jacket, a patchwork leather skirt, and a miniskirt and pants combining leather and denim. For men, the collection featured a denim jacket with leather sleeves and pants combining leather and denim. For bags, LOEWE's iconic "Amazona" bag was transformed into two models: one in leather patchwork and one in leather and denim patchwork. Available in four sizes, the collection also included tote bags, pouches, and purses. Prices for Amazona range from 210,000 to 260,000 yen, with leather jackets priced at 450,000 yen.
The looks for the show also featured Junya Watanabe's archives and Loewe's 2013-14 AW collection. The styling theme was "Bad Girls carrying Loewe." The models all had colorful, rock-style wolf hair and wore shoes decorated with spikes or leather boots, creating a punk look.
Preorders for this collaborative collection will be accepted on Loewe's official website for three weeks, until June 16th. The collection will be available for pre-order at Dover Street Market in September of this year, and will then be sold in 40 locations worldwide, including Loewe boutiques, the official online boutique, and Jeffery in New York.
Loewe's creative director, Stuart Vevers, who has long been a fan of Junya Watanabe, met Watanabe in Tokyo in November last year and discovered that their creative directions aligned, leading to the start of this collaborative project. This year, 2013, also marks the 400th anniversary of the Keicho Embassy to Europe, which was sent to Madrid, and the start of exchanges between Spain and Japan. It also marks the 40th anniversary of the opening of Loewe's first boutique.
