Musician Kazuya Yoshii was born on October 8, 1966, in Tokyo.
He was born in Kita Ward, Tokyo, but spent his elementary and junior high school years in Shizuoka Prefecture. He moved to Tokyo instead of attending high school and joined the band "Argu Police" as bassist in 1986. After forming "The Yellow Monkey" in 1989, he began his career as a vocalist. He wrote, composed, and produced all of the band's songs himself, and also played guitar on many of their songs.
He made his major debut in 1992, and his fourth album, "smile," in 1995, was a huge hit. His subsequent fifth album, "FOUR SEASONS," reached number one on the Oricon charts. However, around 1998, due to the band's busy schedules, it became difficult to continue the band, and the band went on hiatus in 2001. The band officially announced its disbandment in July 2004.
He made his solo debut in 2003 under the name "Yoshii Robinson" and actively performed on solo tours and live events. In 2006, he changed his name to Yoshii Kazuya and enjoyed success with an arena tour and a performance at the Nippon Budokan. His 2011 album, "The Apples," reached number one on the Oricon charts for the first time in 13 years.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of his solo debut, and in January he released his greatest hits album, "18." In April, a photo exhibition featuring new photos of Yoshii taken by photographer Ariga Mikio was held in a special gallery inside the LITHIUM HOMME store in Harajuku, Tokyo. Photo-printed T-shirts in collaboration with LITHIUM HOMME were also sold.
