Ato unveiled its 2014 Spring/Summer collection on October 16th. Designer Ata Matsumoto continued the theme of "COMPOSITION," which means composition or assembly.
The collection primarily featured three-piece suits. However, rather than a completely formal style, the pieces were varied in their items, materials, and colors. The colors were primarily navy and gray, classic colors of men's clothing. However, vibrant colored stripes were added to the hems of inner shirts and knitwear as accents. This motif was expanded to various items. A colored belt was also worn diagonally from the waist, reflecting the styling. The neon color peeks out from the soles of the shoes with every step. At first glance, the shoes look like oxfords, but they are actually slip-ons with elastic on the sides for easy entry.
Although Ato features a deep V-neck, the vests and cardigans this time fastened with only a single button near the chest. The designer aimed for volume at the high points and a light feel by leaving the bottoms open.
"Three-piece suits feel new to me right now. But rather than something completely new, I wanted to create something that is connected to the roots of men's wardrobes. We live in an age where connections through social networks and the like are important. I want to create clothes that are not just costumes, but clothes that are accepted by those around you, clothes that become a part of your daily life," says Matsumoto.
