A pop-up event featuring a collaboration between Sanyo Shokai, Re-Style, New York brand Creatures of the Wind, and New York-based pattern maker Daimaru Seisakusho 2 is being held at The Stage #3 on the 3rd floor of the Isetan Shinjuku store from the 16th to the 22nd. The facade of the venue is decorated with a large object that recreates a portion of a trench coat pattern. The venue's design makes full use of Daimaru Seisakusho 2's pattern-making techniques, highly trusted by New York designers. The collection is based on the theme of "Teddy Girls," a British fashion trend from the 1950s to the 1960s. Creatures of the Wind drew inspiration from 500 archive sketches and advertising visuals stored within Sanyo Shokai, and Daimaru Seisakusho 2 created the three-dimensional patterns.
Regarding this collaboration, Creatures of the Wind's designer Shane explained, "To imagine a 'Teddy Girl' wearing men's outerwear like armor, it made sense to use the archives of Sanyo Shokai, which specializes in coats. From there, we created patterns and decided on materials, and gradually evolved them into something more modern."
Chris, a partner in the unit, said, "The late '60s is a period we love. Searching for sketches for inspiration was fun and allowed the project to proceed smoothly. We were surprised at how similar Sanyo Shokai's sketch archives were to the sketches we normally draw."
Sanyo Shokai's subsidiary, Iwate Sanyo Sewing, handled the sewing, proposing masculine styles that utilize menswear details and feminine silhouettes using pop jacquard weaves. Even though the patterns are the same, different styles are expressed by mixing different materials. Additionally, "ReStyle Exclusive Capsule" will feature four items based on Creatures of the Wind's main collection, available exclusively at ReStyle. These include a dress (72,450 yen), blouse (40,950 yen), and skirt (48,300 yen), all made with a combination of shiny vinyl. "This collection is inspired by candy, with the soft wrapping paper and the solid candy expressing these differences in texture through color schemes and materials. For the capsule collection with ReStyle, we used a crisp, vinyl-like material to tie in with the collection and keep the price reasonable," said the buyer in charge. The collection items will be available at ReStyle on the same floor after the event ends.
