Matohu presented their Spring/Summer 2014 collection. The theme was "devoted." Designers Hiroyuki Horihata and Makiko Sekiguchi expressed the uniquely Japanese spirit of hospitality and dedication by bringing together everyday objects from a different perspective. The designers chose a spiral garden with a spiraling slope leading to the second floor to create the image of models ascending to heaven. The show began with a male model wearing a kimono and a female model wearing a different color design. Gray kimonos and dresses featured various shell patterns on a striped background. A dress featuring various types of birds perched on a tree, a knit outfit featuring different diamond patterns, and a fish-print dress followed. The graphic-looking patterns, which were a trend in Spring/Summer 2013 from a distance, are actually a collection of various types of circles and abstract motifs. The borders and stripes were arranged asymmetrically, with different levels of detail on the left and right sides.
A colorful series also features designs using a variety of patterns, bringing together natural and fluorescent colors such as green, pink, and yellow. The model also wears a headpiece featuring birds, flowers, and dragonflies.
Horihata said, "Now that things are slowly starting to change with the decision to hold the Tokyo Olympics, the word 'kokoro-tsukushi' is a keyword for everyone to enjoy spending time together, and I incorporated the meaning of the (Japanese) spirit of gathering things that are close at hand from a different perspective and showing hospitality to others. I used a male model because I wanted to express the beauty of people that transcends gender. 40 percent of Matofu's customers are male."
