A "JoJo" photo exhibition is currently being held at the Shiseido Ginza Building. JoJo love is overflowing!

Oct 5, 2013

On the 4th, Shiseido opened its headquarters, the Shiseido Ginza Building (7-5-5 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo), and as a grand opening event, it kicked off a beauty photo exhibition based on Araki Hirohiko's manga "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" in the Hanatsubaki Hall on the building's 3rd floor. The exhibition will run until the 9th.

A group photo will be displayed at the back of the venue, and one large photo of each character will be displayed on each wall. Opposite the wall, a tablet device will be placed, displaying the manga page of the character that inspired the photo.

The exhibition features 18 characters as its motifs. The figures include Josuke Higashikata, Rohan Kishibe, and Akira Otoishi from Part 4, "Diamond is Unbreakable," Giorno Giovanna, Bruno Bucciarati, Leone Abbacchio, Jean-Pierre Polnareff, Guido Mista, Risotto Nero, Melone, Secco, and Diavolo from Part 5, "Golden Wind," Jolyne Kujo, Hermes Costello, Foo Fighters, and Weather Report from Part 6, "Stone Ocean," and Blackmore and President Funny Valentine from Part 7, "Steel Ball Run." Everything from the neck up is recreated with hair and makeup. Hoods and hats are also all "hair." The styling follows the atmosphere of the film while adding original accents. Tadashi Harada, a top specialist at Shiseido Beauty who produced the photos, said, "I've been a fan of Araki-sensei since his pre-JoJo work, Baoh. I think his work is also influenced by fashion in some ways. I wondered what would happen if I brought that back into fashion. I selected characters that I thought would be interesting to express through hair, makeup, and styling. Because the story is set in Italy, there were a lot of fashionable looks in Part 5." JoJo is known for its distinctive pose known as the "JoJo pose," but the photos also feature other poses. "The first shot was taken in the JoJo pose, but the rest was up to the model. I chose the coolest poses in terms of fashion. Secco made an impact during the shoot. I also thought Blackmore was awesome. But my favorite is Kishibe Rohan. I like his flowing hair, stone-haired, and simply standing expression." Rohan's styling is also quite different from his appearance in the film, giving him a cool impression.

"I incorporated symbols from the characters' backgrounds into the fashion. People who watch may have different opinions, but I think you can see that I put a lot of love into it," Harada said happily. Finally, when asked which part he liked, he got a surprising answer.

"Actually, I like part 2 the best. But I couldn't recreate it this time (laughs). I'd like to try something like Kars. It would be fun to recreate the scarf covering his face entirely with hair. Since it's the 30th anniversary of JoJo in four years, maybe I'll make 30 figures, including Kars."

He let his love for JoJo overflow.
