This summer, Yokohama Station Building will open a new shopping complex, CIAL Sakuragicho, at Sakuragicho Station on the JR Negishi Line. The concept is "Yokohama Nostalgic Revue." The building incorporates the Meiji and Taisho era atmosphere befitting Yokohama, the birthplace of railways and station commerce, and aims to serve as a starting point for pedestrian traffic throughout the area. The Minatomirai side features the triangular roof of the original station building, while the Noge side features brick-like tiles and decorative windows, evoking the area's history as the birthplace of railways. The complex will be comprised of four zones: Momijizaka Gallery, featuring everyday shops such as food and beverage outlets and drugstores; Yokohama Bazaar, which creates a port-town atmosphere; Station Buffet, featuring themed dining options centered around Yokohama's long-established and famous shops; and Yokohama Information Plaza, a tourist information center with luggage storage and delivery services. All of the names are derived from things associated with Yokohama. The 35 stores that will be opening include local businesses such as Ariake, a confectionery shop known for its signature Ariake Harbor confectionery, Chongqing Chinese Restaurant, a Sichuan cuisine specialty shop in Chinatown, Kiyoken, a shumai shop founded in 1908, Kitamura, a bag brand with its main store in Motomachi, and Kawamuraya, an udon and soba restaurant that opened at the same time as Sakuragicho Station in 1900.
