Barneys Yokohama remodeled into a family-friendly amusement park

Nov 22, 2013

Barneys New York Yokohama (36-1 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture) reopened on November 20th. The first floor, including the ceiling and floor, was completely renovated. Like the Shinjuku store, which was renovated in September, the interior design follows that of the Madison store in New York. Floors two through five feature new sections, taking advantage of the Yokohama store's unique atmosphere. Located near Yokohama's iconic landmarks, Yamashita Park and Marine Tower, the renovation focused on this location and its customer base. The first floor offers a wide view of luxury bags and accessories, highlighting the products. The expanded eyewear section now features an eye exam system that allows customers to get eyeglasses made on the spot, a system that has been well-received at other stores. Additionally, the home goods store "Chelsea Passage," previously located on the seventh floor, has been moved to the first floor, where it is visible from the main street. By intentionally placing eye-catching, accessible items, the store aims to encourage passersby to enter. "We wanted to create a store that wasn't just for people to buy clothes, but where lifestyle-conscious customers could come every week and discover new things," says store manager Hiromitsu Yamamoto.
The baby section has been relocated to the second floor. A nursing room has been added next door, creating a floor that caters to the needs of mothers. The fragrance and skincare products, which were previously placed together, have been separated; fragrances are now on the first floor and skincare products are now placed next to baby products. This is also in one corner, making it easier to find the items you're looking for.
The third floor is home to THE TREAT DRESSING, a popular wedding shop from Kobe. It's the first Barneys New York bridal store to offer rental dresses. The lineup includes 50 dresses, both for sale and rental. The store features the latest brands from around the world, including Jenny Packham, a supplier to the British Royal Family, Monique Lhuillier, a popular brand among fashionistas, and Vera Wang Bride, the pinnacle of wedding dresses. Barneys New York exclusive dresses, crafted by producers The Treat Dressing and featuring delicate jewels and beads at the high waist, will also be available. A wide selection of veils, gloves, and accessories are available to accompany the dresses, allowing for a complete look. Staff will provide thorough consultations and suggest outfits tailored to your needs. Rental dresses range from 200,000 to 500,000 yen, while dresses are available for purchase from 300,000 to 1 million yen. The staff recommends making an advance reservation for fittings. The store also features a wedding favor corner and wedding ring corner, both of which have long been popular at Barneys New York, providing convenience for couples about to be married. A specialized shoe care corner has been set up on the fourth floor where customers can receive consultations. Customers can watch craftsmen at work up close, providing added peace of mind when purchasing shoes. Quick repairs are also available. Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On the fifth floor, we have opened the new "BARNEYS BARBER'S SHOP by KAMISORI CLUB 148," a store where customers can experience grooming and haircuts in collaboration with KAMISORI CLUB, a 112-year-old razor specialty store. The store is equipped with two tasteful, antique-style cutting tables. A unique illustration of a beard on the wall at the entrance creates a charming atmosphere. We also offer a full lineup of razors, offering new ideas for men who are particular about their style. This store is closed on Tuesdays. The store's aisles have been carefully designed to be wide, making it easy for strollers to pass through. Another notable feature is the personal shopping spaces on the third and sixth floors. The sixth floor is a spacious area perfect for two families to relax in. The glass-walled space lets in natural light and offers views of the Marine Tower and the ocean outside. The layout was designed with the utmost attention to creating a comfortable atmosphere. "Unlike typical fashion spots, the Yokohama store has a relaxed atmosphere and is located in Yokohama, so it has been a shop that has been visited by many customers for a long time. We aimed to create a space where customers can spend a long time more comfortably, and a spot that families can enjoy like an amusement park. The store is very spacious, so I think we were able to make the most of its characteristics," says Yokohama store manager Yamamoto. New renovations are also planned for next year.
