On May 1st, Tokyo Midtown will open a limited-time information hub for the Mercedes-Benz brand, "Mercedes me." It's scheduled to run until early December. Hours are 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The facility covers approximately 978 square meters. The first floor will feature displays of the latest Mercedes-Benz models and merchandise for sale, while the second floor will feature a cafe space where visitors can relax. The theme for the opening of this new hub is "to allow more people to experience the essence of Mercedes-Benz more easily." By achieving this goal, the company aims to forge a bond between each customer and the brand. The four keywords used for the opening are "Show," "Space," "Music," and "Food." "Show" will entertain visitors with displays of the latest models and sales of original merchandise, while "Space" will offer a high-quality, relaxing space featuring Mercedes-Benz's luxury interior brand. As for "Music," a radio program will be launched in collaboration with radio station J-WAVE, set aboard a Mercedes me. According to company CEO Kintaro Ueno, the program will propose a "new relationship between driving and music," and plans call for it to be expanded to social media so fans can discuss the topic. The final keyword, "Food," refers to Garrett Cafe meets DOWNSTAIRS, the world's first cafe-style store of Garrett Popcorn Shops, a long-established popcorn brand from Chicago. The cafe offers a variety of original menu items, including "Caramel Crisp Ice Cream" (417 yen), which combines the popular "Caramel Crisp" flavor with graham cookies and ice cream, and "Fruit Pop Brulee" (602 yen). The lunch set (907 yen) includes "Garrett Pop Toast," toast topped with popcorn, and a drink. There is also a unique menu item called the "Mercedes me Special Lunch Set" (3,240 yen) served on a Mercedes plate and cup for takeout.
The company currently operates two information dissemination spaces. In July 2011, it opened "Mercedes-Benz Connection" in Roppongi, Tokyo (which relocated and renovated in January 2013), and then opened another in Grand Front Osaka in April 2013. Mercedes me plans to open 40 locations worldwide by 2020.
