Amusement Atsugi opens. "Attention is focused on Mitsukoshi Isetan's MI PLAZA" - Tokyu Real Estate Management

Apr 29, 2014

The complex "Amuse Atsugi" held its grand opening on April 26th in Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Tokyu Real Estate SC Management was commissioned by Atsugi City, which acquired the former "Atsugi Parco" (Atsugi Park Building), to assist with tenant attraction and operate the commercial zone. The building consists of a commercial zone with approximately 20 stores from the basement to the fourth floor, and a public facility called "Atsugi Citizens' Communication Plaza" on the fifth to ninth floors. The basement floor is home to the variety shop "Daiso," while the first floor houses "MI PLAZA," an Isetan Mitsukoshi Group edit shop, and "Casa Rico Fugaku Mountaineering Store," a kitchen, travel, and trekking store. The second floor, featuring a variety of goods and clothing, is home to the lifestyle goods store "NAVY STORE." The third floor is primarily focused on hobbies and lifestyle, featuring craft goods store Yuzawaya and Scandinavian interior shop OKEY. The entire fourth floor is dedicated to the general reuse shop BOOKOFF PLUS. Yasushi Nakanishi of Tokyu Real Estate SC Management said, "Because the building isn't particularly large, we designed the store so that housewives can drop in and enjoy a casual shopping experience. We also plan for them to shop at the neighboring Aeon. The biggest attraction is undoubtedly MI Plaza." MI Plaza, located on the first floor, features a refreshing white interior accented with greenery and wide windows for easy entry. Targeting housewives in their late 30s to 60s, the store carries approximately 4,000 items, including food, household goods, and clothing. Men's clothing includes shirts, ties, and belts, while the expansive women's clothing section offers a complete outfit. Mitsukoshi Isetan's original brand, "BPQC," offers a lineup of basic cut-and-sew items, bags, and shoes. There's also a gift corner with towels and tableware. Food items include snacks from Kanagawa Prefecture and original Mitsukoshi foods. Each corner features a blackboard for easy viewing, and the merchandise display changes weekly, aiming to create a place where customers won't get bored even if they visit every day. There's also a rest area where customers can enjoy coffee (120 yen). "This is the sixth store nationwide, and its biggest feature is its focus on local products. We've primarily focused on ingredients from Kanagawa Prefecture. We also source from well-known department store brands and major regional manufacturers, so we have the perfect selection for small gifts. We've lowered the price range and offered a wide variety of products to appeal to older customers of the former Atsugi Mitsukoshi store and to attract younger customers," says an MI Plaza representative.

On the first day of its grand opening, MI Plaza was bustling with customers in their 40s to 60s. According to the MI Plaza manager, the local Western-style confectionery corner was particularly popular, with Kamakura Beniya's Kurumikko Cut-off (1,200 yen) and Kamakura Roll (800 yen) from Kamakura New German selling out completely. MI Plaza's opening-day sales were 105.7% of its target.

As part of the countdown to the 60th anniversary of Atsugi City's founding, the facility plans to hold a variety of opening events on weekends and public holidays, including live comedy and music performances, rakugo, and talk shows.
