Actress Lupita Nyong'o has been appointed as the new brand ambassador for Lancôme. She is the fourth Academy Award-winning actress to serve as a Lancôme ambassador, following Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, and Penélope Cruz.
Nyong'o won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress last month for her role in Steve McQueen's latest film, 12 Years a Slave. She has also won the Screen Actors Guild Award, the Independent Spirit Award, the NAACP Award, and the New Hollywood Award at the 2013 Hollywood Film Festival. In addition to her work as an actress, she is also active in a variety of fields, including directing the documentary film, In My Genes, which depicts Kenyans with albinism and won an award at the African Film Festival in Mexico.
Of her appointment, Nyong'o said, "I am incredibly proud to represent Lancôme's unique view of womanhood and the idea that beauty is not something that is imposed upon us, but rather an expression of the freedom for women to be themselves."
Lupita will appear in this summer's campaign, photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
