Espace Louis Vuitton to host Steve McQueen exhibition

Mar 13, 2014

Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo will host its 10th exhibition, a solo exhibition by British artist Steve McQueen, Academy Award-winning for "12 Years a Slave," from April 26th.

The exhibition features world premieres of works created in collaboration with Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo. Compared to his previous works, these works possess a more abstract character, inviting viewers into a world of pure sensation. Through viewing, McQueen aims to reveal the "truest part of oneself"—hidden thoughts, intentions, and desires.

McQueen, born in London in 1969, is a video artist and film director. He began his creative career while still a university student and has received the Turner Prize, a prestigious British art award, and an Officer and Commander of the Order of the British Empire. His works are housed in museums around the world, including the Tate Gallery in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. In 2008, his first feature film, "Hunger," won the Best New Director award at the Cannes Film Festival, and his latest film, "12 Years a Slave," won three Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
