
On May 6th, the fictional shopping district "Higashi Tokyo Monozukuri Shopping Street" will hold its first real-life event, "Higashi Tokyo Monozukuri Shopping Street: A Pop-Up Shopping Street," near Ueno Sakuragi in Yanaka, Tokyo.
Higashi Tokyo Monozukuri Shopping Street is a fictional shopping street created by Japanese craftsmen based in "East Tokyo." Paying homage to the long-standing power of "monozukuri" (craftsmanship) and the unique history of each area, under the direction of the creative team "SELF," the district works with various creators and companies to invigorate East Tokyo through the chemical reaction that occurs between the good old and the new.
In addition to product displays and sales by artisans, this inaugural event will feature workshops using Ishikawa Wire Mesh's wire mesh origami "ORIAMI" and Sankyo's assembly box "Hako de kit."
Other companies scheduled to participate include Uchida Dyeing Factory of Koishikawa Dyeing Studio, Marui Manufacturing of +brass, Biken Graphics of shiki-oriori, Digre of leathereria, Miyoshi Soap, SAKURA WAQS of Sazo, Marusa Saito Rubber of marusa-balloon, Komaya, and Maruwa Textile Industry of OTUTUMI.
