"Rieko Hidaka: Sky and Trees" - First solo exhibition at an art museum in 13 years - will be held at the Vangi Sculpture Garden Museum

Apr 14, 2017

The Vangi Sculpture Garden Museum in Clematis Hill, Shizuoka, will be hosting the "Eriko Hidaka: Sky and Trees" exhibition from April 22 to November 30. Hidaka Rieko is a contemporary artist active in the field of Japanese painting, unconstrained by traditional styles, and her works feature trees, depicted from a perspective of looking up from directly below. Since painting "Tree" as her graduation project, Hidaka has consistently used trees in nature as her motif, continuing to paint from her unique perspective for over 30 years, changing the titles of her works. This exhibition, her first solo exhibition at a Japanese museum since 2013, will feature the latest works from her "Distance to the Sky" series. The exhibition utilizes a display technique that further expands the spatiality of the paintings and envelops the viewer's body. Additionally, the first Hidaka Rieko Collected Works (tentative title) will be published in August, and an opening talk event will be held on April 22, the first day of the exhibition. In addition, a curator will hold a gallery talk of approximately 40 minutes every Sunday.
