From March 18 to May 14, the Ichihara Lakeside Museum in Chiba Prefecture will host "Parallax," a solo exhibition by Berlin-based internationally acclaimed artist Carsten Nicolai. Focusing on the characteristics and patterns of our surroundings, light, sound, and natural phenomena, Carsten Nicolai continues to produce work that traverses the realms of art, music, and science. He was the recipient of the Japan Media Arts Festival Grand Prize in 2014, the Japan Media Arts Festival Grand Prize awarded by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. This exhibition, his first solo exhibition at a Japanese art museum in approximately 15 years, explores the origins of "parallax," a visual effect in which an object appears different when viewed from two different perspectives. The six projects, meticulously remodeled to fit the museum's unique exhibition space, include an 18-meter-long project piece and a sound installation utilizing the atrium.
On the first day, March 18th, a special talk event (1,000 yen) will be held to celebrate the opening, from 2pm to 4pm, with Carsten Nicolai. There will also be a workshop for children on April 29th.
