24 young craftsmen from Kyoto gather together to experience gold lacquering and bamboo basket making at the Kyoto-focused "Kyoto Goto Exhibition"

Sep 3, 2016

"Encountering the Work of 24 Kyoto Artisans" - Sanchigoto Exhibition Vol. 07 "Kyoto" - will be held from September 1st to 27th at coto mono michi at TOKYO in Aoyama, Tokyo.
This is the seventh installment of the popular "Kyoto"-focused "Sanchigoto Exhibition," bringing together 24 young artisans from Kyoto who are the next generation of Japan's traditional industries. The venue will feature booths where visitors can see their handiwork, with various proposals changing weekly on the theme of food, clothing, and shelter.
In addition, Kyoto artisans will be holding workshops on bamboo weaving, gold leafing, and painting. The "Gold Leaf Accessory & Compact Making" event on September 10th will allow visitors to experience the process of applying glue using stencils and gluing foil and metal powder. The processed fabric can then be fashioned into accessories such as hair ties, corsages, brooches, and pins, as well as compacts. On September 11th, there will be a "Kintsugi Experience" where you can try your hand at "kintsugi," a technique for repairing chipped or broken pottery. By simply gluing pieces together with lacquer or repairing chipped parts and then decorating them with gold, you can transform a defective piece into something with a completely new look.

Other events planned include "Making Accessories with Gold Leaf," where you can try your hand at gold leaf stamping; "Making Flower Bracelets with Braided Cords," where you can choose your favorite color from a wide selection of cords and create your own original bracelet; "Making Chopstick Rests and Small Plates with Red-Painted Detailing," where you can try red-painting with small patterns and small flowers; and "Making Bamboo Flower Baskets," where you can make a bamboo basket using white bamboo from Kyoto that can be used for various purposes, such as a flower vase or trinket holder, on September 24th.
