Finnish interior brand Artek, celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, will be selling a special Domus chair upholstered in fabric by mina perhonen in a limited run of 70 chairs at the special Artek corner of the MINA-TO shop on the first floor of Spiral in Aoyama, Tokyo, from October 7th to 16th. Originally created in 1946 for the Domus Academica, a student dormitory in Helsinki, Finland, the Domus chair has become a global fixture thanks to its comfortable seating and ease of use. In conjunction with the Artek Domus Chair exhibition "the chair ≠ a chair," held to coincide with the chair's 70th anniversary, mina perhonen has carefully selected eight fabrics from her original selection, along with matching Domus chair bodies. This special model features the carefully selected fabric on the seat and back, with leather piping on the backrest.
In addition, a campaign is being held until the end of 2016 in which purchasers of the Domus Chair will receive a "Domus Chair 70th Anniversary Poster" illustrated by Minagawa Akira, designer of Mina Perhonen. In addition to the chair, the special Artec corner at MINA-TO will also feature masking tape featuring the Domus Chair and Stool 60 designed by Artec and Mina Perhonen, iron-on patches for the Domus Chair, and tote bags created last year to commemorate Artec's 80th anniversary.
