
"Shimura's Kimono, Mina's Obi," a collaborative exhibition of kimonos by mina perhonen and Atelier Shimura, will be held at TOBICHI in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo, from November 20th to 23rd.
The exhibition will feature six kimonos supervised by Fukumi Shimura, a dyeing and weaving artist and Living National Treasure, and her eldest daughter, Yoko Shimura. The kimonos in this exhibition were woven with thread dyed in the workshop. Also on display and for sale will be obi sewn from five textiles carefully selected by Atelier Shimura from the many textile designs prepared by Akira Minagawa, designer of mina perhonen. Prices start from 450,000 yen for the kimonos and 100,000 yen for the obi.
In addition, at TOBICHI's permanent shop, located three doors down from the main venue, Atelier Shimura will be hosting a "Live Temporary Tailoring" event from 3pm to 5pm on November 20th, and from 11am to 12pm and 4pm to 5pm from November 21st to 23rd. Visitors will be able to watch the process of thread being dyed, turned into pieces, and then taking shape into a kimono. There will also be an Atelier Shimura corner where hand-woven stoles, framed pieces of fabric, books, postcards and more will be on sale.
Please note that the kimono selection service by atelier staff will be held on November 20th from 12pm to 1pm, on the 21st from 10am to 11am and 6pm to 7pm, and on the 22nd from 10am to 11am and 6pm to 7pm, as well as the talk show by Shimura Fukumi, Shimura Yoko and Itoi Shigesato at 6pm on the 20th and the talk show by Itoi Shigesato and Minagawa Akira at 7pm on the 23rd, are all fully booked and applications are now closed.
