"Bicycle Expo 2017" to be held in Aoyama, unraveling Japanese culture from the past through vintage bicycles

Apr 25, 2017

ITOCHU Corporation will hold the "Bicycle Expo 2017: Bicycles and Fashion" exhibition at ITOCHU Aoyama Art Square in Gaienmae, Tokyo, from April 29 to May 28.
Since 2012, ITOCHU Corporation has been holding art exhibitions as part of its social contribution activities. This time, during May, designated "Bicycle Month," the company has planned an exhibition titled "Bicycle Expo 2017: Bicycles and Fashion - The Secret Yagami Collection," showcasing the "Yagami Collection" (privately owned), previously only accessible to select individuals.
The exhibition will feature a special display of approximately 20 bicycles from the early days of cycling, as well as over 40 bicycle-related posters depicting modern, lively women symbolizing that era. Visitors can also see a collection of ukiyo-e prints depicting the evolution of Tokyo's famous landmarks from the Meiji to early Showa periods, providing an opportunity to experience the charms of bicycle culture while experiencing the Japanese culture and customs that were popular at the time.

In addition, a gallery talk by curator Tanidagai Kazuo will be held at the same venue from 6:00 to 7:00 pm on May 12th during the exhibition period.
