Okujun will open "Yuki Sawaya," a kimono shop specializing in original Japanese clothing products, on September 14th. The store is located at 12-2 Yuki, Yuki City, Ibaraki Prefecture.
Since its founding in 1907 as a local wholesaler, Okujun has contributed to the development of Yuki Tsumugi. In recent years, the store has ventured into new fields, such as opening the Yuki Tsumugi Museum "Tsumugi no Yakata" and developing a shawl brand. It has also been invited to the Paris textile fair "Première Vision" for three consecutive years.
Okujun has opened "Yuki Sawaya," a kimono shop in Yuki City, Ibaraki Prefecture, the birthplace of Yuki Tsumugi. Based on the concept of "discovering kimono anew," the store offers original Yuki Tsumugi as well as obi and accessories created in collaboration with artists and other producers. It will propose total coordination of kimono to enjoy in the "current era."
We also plan to regularly hold Japanese-style seminars such as how to wear kimono, tours of production areas, and events where you can go out in kimono. Leveraging the quality that can only be found in the production area, we aim to be a store where kimonos can be felt more closely.
Yuki Tsumugi is a silk fabric that has been passed down mainly in Yuki City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and is said to have a history of 2,000 years. The production process, which is done entirely by hand from turning the silkworms into floss to weaving, has been registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
