The BIRKENSTOCK Harajuku store will relocate and reopen on September 26th near the Harajuku Jingumae intersection (2nd floor, Harajuku G-Flat, 6-30-2 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo). The previous store, which had been a beloved fixture for 17 years since its opening in 1997, has now closed and will be renovated with a new look. Located at the Jingumae intersection, the entire two-story space will be used for retail. The second floor will be fitted with glass walls almost to the floor, allowing in ample natural light, and the store will be transformed into an organic-looking space with plantings. The store's natural atmosphere, featuring natural materials, will feature a lineup ranging from BIRKENSTOCK classics to new releases. BIRKENSTOCK was founded around 1774, when Johannes Adam BIRKENSTOCK was recorded in the association's official documents as "shoemaker to the king." In 1896, the company opened two shoe stores in Frankfurt and began producing footbeds for shoes. In 1963, the first sandal for corrective and exercise purposes, the Madrid, was completed.
