TATAMI, the luxury line of German shoe manufacturer BIRKENSTOCK, celebrating its 240th anniversary, will collaborate with leading Japanese men's brands to create sandals, which will be sold exclusively at the Isetan Shinjuku Men's Store starting July 31st. The participating brands are kolor BEACON, White Mountaineering, sacai, N.HOOLYWOOD, and TAKAHIROMIYASHITATheSoloIst. Each brand has created a unique design based on TATAMI's base models: Dakar, Piriza, Line, Mississippi, and Thames. Prices range from 34,650 yen to 40,950 yen. Only 100 pairs of each sandal will be available. TATAMI was founded in 1990 by Alex Birkenstock. The brand name comes from Japanese tatami mats. To recreate the feel of stepping on a tatami mat, the company uses a thick, four-layered footbed (sole) based on anatomical principles. It is also highly durable and moisture-absorbent, making it highly functional.
