Hanshin and Hankyu build high-rise building at 1-1 Umeda. Creating a comfortable town through reconstruction and development of surrounding facilities.

Sep 29, 2014

The start date for the "Umeda 1-1 Project" (a reconstruction plan for the Osakashin Building, which houses the Hanshin Umeda Main Store in Osaka, and the Shin Hankyu Building), promoted by Hanshin Electric Railway and Hankyu Corporation, has been set for October 1st. Demolition of the Shin Hankyu Building, which houses the Hanshin Umeda Main Store in Osaka, will begin as Phase I, with completion targeted for spring 2022.

The planned site is located in the Umeda district, central Osaka, at the beginning of Midosuji. The reconstruction will utilize the space above the road between the two buildings, and the development of surrounding public facilities will be carried out in an integrated manner. This will promote the development of a comfortable, high-quality urban area through the enhancement of urban functions, strengthening of disaster prevention measures, the creation of public spaces, and the creation of beautiful landscapes.

The building will include an 11-floor department store zone of the same size as the current one, an office zone with the largest floor area in western Japan and equipped with the latest technology, and a conference zone that will serve as a temporary congregation area for those unable to return home in the event of a disaster. The sky lobby on the 11th floor of the office zone and the rooftop plaza on the lower floors will be open to office workers and visitors. A three-level pedestrian network will be strengthened around the building, covering the underground, ground, and deck levels, to improve mobility.
