On September 27th, a fashion show featuring JAL's flight attendants was held at the International Terminal of Haneda Airport, titled "Sky Day Festival 2014." This was the first and final uniform fashion show held by JAL and its consolidated subsidiary, JAL Express (JEX), before their merger on October 1st. It was the first uniform show for JAL Express. A total of 15 flight attendants appeared one after another on the Edo-style stage at Haneda International Terminal, wearing the uniforms of the former Japan Air System, the former Japan Airlines, and JAL Express. They walked in order, from the first JAL flight attendant to the second, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, ninth, and current flight attendants. The uniforms clearly reflected the trends of each era, and the show offered an interesting look back at the company's history from 1971 to the present. This powerful orange two-piece suit, worn from 1971 onward, is the second generation and features a miniskirt reminiscent of Swinging London. The color is said to have been chosen to match the orange livery of the time. The former Japan Airlines' eighth generation uniform, created in 1987 to commemorate full privatization, was a military-style two-piece suit with power shoulders. The fifth generation uniform, created in 1997 to coincide with the introduction of the Boeing 777-200, had an active feel, layered with a striped long-sleeved T-shirt. Past designers have included well-known names such as Hanae Mori, Yoshie Inaba, and Keita Maruyama. These uniforms incorporated the needs of the sky cast (flight attendants) of the time and the latest fashion trends, allowing us to glimpse the transition from the modern era through the various generations of uniforms.
