An exhibition by new generation creators born in 1981. Textiles, Kutani ware, etc.

Sep 17, 2014

Nippon Form, a showroom in Shinjuku, Tokyo, is holding an exhibition titled "The Work of New Generation Creators - The Inevitable Encounter of Those Born in 1981," focusing on three creators born in 1981.

Kawahigashi Rika is a designer who focuses on textile design, as well as a wide range of lifestyle items such as interior design, furniture, and graphics. The exhibition will feature "itu," a necklace made from Oshima Tsumugi silk, as well as "Sinne," an original towel collection by Marushin, for which she was responsible for art direction. One particularly unique piece is the lampshade "KIKU and SAKURA." By adding decorations to both the front and back, new patterns emerge when the lamp is lit.

Kade Keigo is the sixth generation owner of the Kutani ware kiln "Kade Choemon Kiln." He has garnered attention with works such as "Banana" and "Skull Candy Jar," and participated in the "Re-Style Gift" event organized by Isetan and fashion magazine SPUR. He has also collaborated with Jaime Hayon, bringing new possibilities to Kutani ware. The exhibition features drum-shaped teacups and tea bowls featuring the traditional Choemon Kiln motif of a flute player. When sake is poured into the cups, they resemble a samurai or dog bathing in a bathtub. Interior designer Mikya Kobayashi has worked on projects with various companies both in Japan and abroad, and has received awards such as the Gold Medal at Germany's iF Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award. The furniture collection "Yamanami" will be on display. Kobayashi is responsible for the design direction of the collection, which was created by skilled artisans in Asahikawa. The interior, crafted with exquisite craftsmanship, exudes simplicity yet warmth.
