Art space "AM" (Rooms 301/302, Jingu Heights, 6-33-14 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) will open in Omotesando, Tokyo, on October 16th. It is run by the planning staff of "Impossible Project Space," which was based in Nakameguro from 2010 to spring 2014. This is a further upgrade. Centered around a photography exhibition, it will introduce collaborative projects with artists from various genres in a variety of formats. The opening event will feature "Barrier," an exhibition of instant film by photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, running until December 15th. "Barrier" is a series of hundreds of instant film pieces cut in half with a box cutter and then reattached. While Araki has enjoyed a glamorous career that has attracted attention around the world, his works, which were shot after the death of his wife, cancer surgery, and blindness in his right eye, symbolize the sacred and the secular, firmly linking these two extremes to create an even more complex chaos.
>
At the venue, Araki's collection of works, "Kekkai" (published by Aisensia), presented in a special box the same size as instant film, will be on sale in advance.
